My name is Norm Coon, and I have been a player in well over 1000+ Fast
Pitch softball games (50+ regional final games; 75+ state final games - 50+ as
a player/manager) with experience at (7) different positions throughout my (24)
year playing career. I am still playing currently in competitive M.A.S.A.
Men's Fast Pitch Softball games and tournaments within the State of Michigan.
I have over (35) years of total Fast Pitch Softball experience; (11) years
observing/coaching and over (24) years of personal on-field experience.
I have been a softball hitting instructor for (6) years, and the private
Fast Pitch/Slow-pitch softball Hitting Instructor at Bullpen Sports (Burton,
Michigan) since its original opening in April 2005.
I am also a certified National Fast Pitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA) 4-star
Master Coach since 2005 (Inaugural class member and one of less than 100 in the
entire country with this certification; see internet link: http://www.nfca.org/pagebank/?id=755).
I also have experience as a Fast Pitch Softball Head Coach at the Travel Ball
and High School levels for six seasons, and experience as an Assistant Coach at
the HS and College levels for three seasons as well. I have also assisted at
many Fast Pitch Softball clinics as: hitting, base running, infield, outfield,
and fielding/throwing instructor.
Personally, after many years in the game of Fast Pitch Softball, I found that I
really love the challenge of teaching the ART of hitting specifically.
I really enjoy, and have a natural ability for, analyzing and diagnosing
hitters’ bunts/swings QUICKLY, with the ability to clearly and concisely
communicate to the student the concepts and issues that need to be addressed
for improvement.
I will breakdown the basic mechanics of hitting step-by-step in a way which can
be easily understood by each student, and discuss philosophies that may be
beneficial to them in many different hitting situations. I will also
develop and implement an individualized plan towards making the necessary
improvements concerning the student’s hitting and bunting techniques.
Over my many years playing Fast pitch softball, I have had the unique
perspective of personally having viewed a LOT of quality pitching in all types
of critical game situations from the batter’s box myself. I feel I can
also help the student by sharing some of my more successfully implemented
game-used strategies, adjustments and overall mental approaches to hitting and
the game of softball in general.
It is through this type of dedicated, individual instruction, the sharing of my
personal on-field game experiences and overall love for the game, that I feel I
can help players reach their ultimate Fast Pitch Softball hitting (&
fielding) potential than through just team coaching alone.
